What will happen when I arrive for my massage therapy appointment?
When you arrive at our day spa for your appointment, your certified therapist will take the time to ask you some questions about your medical history and related information. This will help the therapist get a better sense of a treatment plan that will fulfill your specific needs. The therapist will take the time to explain all the procedures concerning the massage session. Please take the time to voice any concerns and ask questions. The massage appointment is your time, so make sure you are getting the type of therapy you need. After the therapist has explained the massage procedure to you she will leave the room to allow you to get undressed to your level of comfort, after which, you can lie face down on the massage table under the top sheet. The massage therapist will knock on the door to make sure you are ready. The massage therapist will re-enter the room when you are ready and adjust the face cradle and pillows to make sure you are comfortable. Tell the massage therapist if you are too warm or cold, or if you are uncomfortable in any way. The massage therapist will generally use a light oil or lotion on the skin for the massage. You will be underneath a sheet at all times. Only the part of the body being treated at any one time is uncovered. After your massage, the therapist will leave the room so you can get changed. Take your time getting up.
How can I get the most from my massage or sports therapy?
Always give feedback to the massage therapist. Let the therapist know if the pressure is too much or too little. If anything makes you uncomfortable, tell your therapist right away.
What should I do after the massage and how will I feel?
Most people will feel calm and relaxed after their treatment. Occasionally you may feel a mild aching or soreness for a day if you have asked for a deep tissue massage. However, remember a good massage does not need to be painful!
Will my massage treatment be painful?
Massage therapy should not hurt. Sometimes there is slight pain or burning when the massage therapist applies pressure over a tight or tense muscle area. If the pressure is too much, let your therapist know right away.
What do I wear during my massage?
In most states there are strict draping laws which means that throughout your treatment you will always be covered with a sheet or towel. When you enter the treatment room the therapist will explain the procedures and ask any pertinent questions. The therapist will then leave the room allowing you the privacy to disrobe as far as you are comfortable. Many people leave on their underwear or bring shorts or a sports bra. It is always an option to receive a massage fully clothed as well.
How often should I get a massage?
This really depends on your needs and what you are trying to derive from your massage session. If relaxation is your main goal, then a weekly massage or a massage as often as you feel is necessary to help relieve stress is great. If you are receiving a particular type of massage treatment for a specific muscular or medical problem, then you and your therapist can plan the most beneficial treatment schedule together.
